๐ฅ Before One-Winged Angel… a god must first be born.
This week we’re heading deep into the Northern Crater with “Birth of a God”, one of the final battle themes from the original Final Fantasy VII.
Composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the track accompanies the confrontation with Bizarro Sephiroth, as Cloud and his companions finally reach Sephiroth near the end of their journey. What follows is the beginning of FFVII’s enormous multi-stage finaleโand the transformation of Sephiroth into something far beyond the man the party has been pursuing. โ๏ธ๐ฅ
Musically, Birth of a God is filled with connections to both Sephiroth and Final Fantasy’s past. Elements of “Those Chosen by the Planet” are woven into the composition, while the familiar battle-theme bass line from the earlier Final Fantasy games makes an appearance as well.
There are even echoes of the final battle against Zeromus from Final Fantasy IV hidden within the piece. ๐ถ
All of this gives Birth of a God that unmistakable feeling of approaching the end: familiar musical ideas returning while the scale of the battle becomes increasingly surreal.
And, of course, this isn’t even Sephiroth’s final form…
One-Winged Angel is still waiting. ๐ชฝ๐
We hope you enjoy our FFXIV Bard Performance of this legendary Final Fantasy VII boss theme!
